As both the heart and the engine of our organisation, our team members work hard to deliver quality and compassionate care to our community. Now we are taking the opportunity to introduce you to our wonderful staff, to learn more about them and to offer a sneak peak of what it's like to work at Just For U Care.
In our next #JFUFaces, meet Gabrielle, our much admired senior care consultant and registered nurse who leads our HCP team with kindness and compassion. With over 40 years in aged care (and 7 at Just For U Care), Gabrielle brings a wealth of knowledge and experience - both in HCP and NDIS - to her role.
Having supported her own parents' journey through the Commonwealth Home Support Program, the Home Care Packages Program and then residential care, Gabrielle has a unique and in-depth understanding of aged care from both the client's and the provider's perspective. "My experiences have definitely impacted my understanding of the individual needs of a person who is ageing," she says.
Why did you choose a profession in aged care?
Initially, I returned to nursing after having my 3 children and decided to restart in an aged care facility. I found I really enjoyed supporting our older generation in residential care. I then moved to working in the community with the delivery of HCP to clients in their own homes as most often the person prefers to remain living in their own and being part of the local community. Home is usually where people are the most comfortable and I consider it an honour to be part of the program that supports that wish.
Can you share a bit about your role at Just For U Care?
My main role is overseeing the HCP team of care consultants. I also have my own clients who I support at home with the HCP.
Day to day involves communicating with our clients, support workers and partners, ensuring supports are provided to meet the client’s individual goals. I am also able to complete clinical assessments when required.
What do you love about working for Just For U Care?
The Just For U Care team is supportive of both its staff and HCP clients. The focus is always around how we can best support our HCP clients to live the life they want to live.
There is also a lot of opportunity for professional development as management encourages new training opportunities for the care consultants to enhance their skills.
Do you have any hobbies/ passions outside of work?
I am part of a close family and most of my weekends are spent catching up with my 3 daughters and 6 grandchildren who range in age from 15 to 5 years old. I particularly love watching them play their various sports and being a part of their lives.
I enjoy seeing my Mum who lives in an Aged Care Facility and taking her out to the movies, for coffee etc. I also love reading and listening to true crime podcasts and am a long-suffering St Kilda supporter!
